Summary: The following article looked at the future of flying aircraft. Currently, companies are working on creating self-flying aircraft which could be beneficial for the future. Companies use data in order to train self-flying aircraft to have them take a certain path to reach the given destination. These aircraft get better each time after doing repetitive tasks and get better trained on their flying capabilities. However, a problem arises whenever a self-flying aircraft is introduced to a task or placed in a situation which it is not familiar with. What will happen if this aircraft is taken off course or begins to encounter an object that is within its normal path, will it know how to get back on course? An aircraft may eventually be placed in a situation in which it is introduced to the “trolley problem.” So if an aircraft has to make a decision between 2 bad decisions will it be able to make a better decision? This is something to take into consideration when creating algorithms that will be used on advancing technology. Will we as future data scientists or software engineers be able to think about the ethical decisions that the advancing technology may encounter and how can we help these advancing technology to make the best decision without damaging or hurting the human race?
