Summary: The following article proposes the question of how should data scientists go about making data science a sustainable practice. The authors put forth a commons approach to creating a sustainable framework for the practice of data science. They believe that the users of data need to be cognizant of the environment from which this resource comes. This means that data scientists should have stakeholder input as to how their data is being used and possibly have a say for which purposes it can be deployed. This paper is mainly about health data, which comes with stringencies above and beyond other kinds of data, but this is generalizable.
