Summary: In the following article, before diving into the ethical concerns of data usage in the NHL, the author turns to rugby. The kicker of a recent rugby championship team wore a wearable data device that showed he actually slowed his heart rate down before taking the winning kick, instead of his heart rate increasing. National Hockey League (NHL) commissioner cited this example as a full reason to deploy wearable devices in the NHL — it tells a more full story to fans. Although the commissioner appears to be in full swing of deployment, others have concerns. This is not the first time it has been deployed, as it had failed back in 2015 due to cost, effectiveness, and ethical concerns.
