Summary: The following article makes the case for the formation of corporate data programs to ensure data is being used ethically. In addition, this article encourages these corporate data programs to do more than just protecting privacy, such as being transparent and which data is being collected on customers and how it is being used. Best of all, this article provides a 4-step process companies can use to create a successful ethical data-use program, which are aligning on company beliefs, determining data ownership and risk mitigation, training employees to establish a culture of ethical data usage, and setting up a cross-functional data ethics board.
