Summary: The following article discusses how data science has proven to be a quickly changing and complex field to navigate from the perspective of ethical use. The best way for any data science team to successfully hold themselves accountable and ensure every action they take is done with the proper ethics in mind is to have a specified data ethicist. This role requires a broad understanding of society and how data science technology can impact it from a social or economic standpoint. In this sense, the data ethicist provides a connection from the data science world to the actual world, serving to ensure that their team is using the data to the best of their ability but in keeping with the ever-changing standards of ethics in the field.
