Summary: The following tool is an Ethical Risk Quick Scan for helping clients assess the ethical risks of their data. The following questions are asked during the Quick Scan: 1). Vulnerable people impacted; 2). Number of people impacted large; 3). Matters of life affected; 4). Influencing personal behavior; 5). No, or slow, feedback loop; 6). No human in the loop; 7). Bias in the data; and 8). Personal Data used? Each of these categories are then scored to be either low risk, medium risk, or high risk depending on the answers to the questions. For high risk categories, they suggest actions to mitigate potential issues. They also recommend paying extra attention to areas that are medium risk. The post stresses that companies can both reach their business goals and use their data in an ethical way. This is a short and easy to understand blog post that also contains a really great visualization of the potential ethical trouble spots.
