Summary: This article discusses the emerging field of social media mining, which has evolved from the intersection of big data and social media studies. In the era of widespread social media usage, data mining has gained prominence as a technique for representing, analyzing, and extracting actionable insights from these platforms. Many companies and organizations employ this approach to gain valuable insights into their user populations. However, the authors raise a crucial point about the potentially invasive nature of such practices, highlighting the legal and ethical concerns that surround them. As someone who has experienced the evolution of social media over a significant part of my life and aspires to become a data scientist, these concerns resonate with me on a personal level. I am deeply interested in the social media industry and aspire to contribute to a safer digital environment by staying well-informed about these important data ethics considerations.
