Summary: The following video discusses how even though the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was enforced in Europe, and not in the United States, it could be beneficial to look at how things are done in different countries. In May 2018, a new legislation was passed to ensure greater data privacy in European countries. This quick video explains the main purposes of the new legislation and how this legislation affects the entire world and not just Europe. Generally, this law enables individuals to have greater control over the data that is being shared with others and controls what companies can and cannot do with data that is being collected from them. The legislation covers a broad range of data, including name, location, sexual orientation, health, and political opinion data. The big difference between the laws in the U.S. and the law in the European Union is that users or clients will have to opt-in for data collection rather than actively having to opt-out.
