Summary: The following article focuses on how in the U.S., inmates in prison are asked to repeat words and phrases to a voice recognition software under the threat of losing their telephone access. The inmates are unaware of why they are being recorded, but the U.S. prison system is collecting and analyzing their speech patterns to create that inmate’s unique voice print. Just like fingerprints, their voice prints are being stored in a database to be pulled to identify voices in phone calls. The New York prison system takes it a step further and collects the voice prints of individuals who make contact with inmates, regardless if the individual has their own criminal record.
