Summary: The following video is a TED talk discussing the issue of privacy in data collection. The speaker gives an overview of the issue of privacy, how it affects people, the role that companies and governments play in it, and how it is a difficult problem to solve that can not have a one-size-fits-all solution. She then relates the issue of privacy to that of transparency and suggests people not engage with organizations that are not transparent with their data collection and use. Afterward, she discusses her project with IBM and how they incorporated transparency in the heart of this project by defining its 3 pillars: 1). Privacy and personal autonomy (a commitment to transparency with employees); 2). Simplicity and ease of use (all analytics was described and easily understandable); and 3). Personal empowerment (provide employees with actionable insight.
