Summary: The following article discusses how professional sports teams have started using data analytics more and more over the last decade or so in order to improve team performance and profitability. However, as was the case of the Houston Astros, it can be all too easy to cross many ethical lines. The Astros had spreadsheets that kept track of opposing team’s pitch signals which made it easier for the Astros to win games. The Astros sought to win in the short-term instead of focusing more on the long-term implications of their actions.
