Summary: The following article addresses the recent documentary about chef and TV personality Anthony Bourdain, where artificial intelligence (AI) was used to recreate his voice in a documentary posthumously. Lamb makes the point that the only reason we know that AI was used to generate his voice was due to an interview with the director; otherwise, it was indistinguishable from his real voice. This raises further concerns about AI’s usage in media and how it can be used to dupe an audience. The rise of “deepfakes” has added another tool to spread misinformation, and can media in general (TV, movies, news, etc…) be trusted with this technology?
