Summary: The following resource explains the major challenge in mapping AI and data ethics concerns what constitutes AI and data ethics in the first place. The issue is further complicated by the fact that much of the discussion about matters of ethical relevance does not fall under the label of ethics, and this may be especially true for non-dominant perspectives that are particularly important in this mapping. The graphs featured depict a network of articles retrieved from the Web of Science academic database using searches for ‘AI ethics’, ‘data ethics’, ‘data justice’, and ‘responsible AI’. The observations made may change based on the set of keywords and data sources used, but the phenomenon of disciplinary isolation has been noted by previous studies investigating data ethics and highlights the need for supporting multi-disciplinary work and collaborations in the field.
