Summary: This article discusses the dark side of the use of AI in the dental industry. The possible implications are job loss, misdiagnosis caused by errors, and can exacerbate existing disparities in healthcare among marginalized communities. This serves as an interesting contrast to the previous article I read that states how AI and machine learning can create accessibility to dental care. While it can create dentistry access, the lack of human oversight may have long term implications for these communities. As society pushes for more and more artificial intelligence and automation, I think it’s important that data scientists think of the possible disadvantages that may arise from these supposed advantages.
