Summary: The following podcast episode from the “Data Skeptic” podcast, hosted by Kyle Polich, interviews Bahman Rostami-Tabar about his work with the organization “Forecasting for Social Good.” This organization leads workshops teaching time series analysis and forecasting in underdeveloped countries. One of the ethical considerations this addresses is allowing communities to take control of their own data and how it is analyzed, rather than analysis being run by 1st world countries. It also allows an access point for people working in the public sector to gain an understanding of forecasting. All of this work is predicated on having someone at these public/not-for-profit/small organizations that are competent at these analytic skills and are able to communicate these skills clearly to decision-makers – there is a long way to go.
