Summary: The following article uses the case of artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot “Lee Luda,” built up by ScatterLab, to draw people’s attention to personal data management. Main ethical issues include: 1). ScatterLab did not inform the data providers about the usage of data in creating an AI chatbot; 2). The chatbot revealed some personal information when chatting, and the company even shared the training model on GitHub not thoroughly filtered or anonymized personal data; and 3). Luda made discriminatory remarks towards social minorities, and ScatterLab was not aware of it. To avoid repeating the same mistakes, data collectors should clarify the data collection and usage in advance, seek consents from data providers, treat personal data carefully, and adhere to the law. On the other hand, data providers must be aware of the terms of services and understand what data they are sharing, who they are sharing with, and where the data will be used.
