Summary: This article touches on a meeting between AI experts and U.S. Senators aimed to discuss how AI regulation should look in the future. This meeting was criticized for both being too favorable to big tech and for being private. As Data Scientists, we should be thinking of how AI should interact with the government to protect people. I would have liked for these conversations to have been public, which would be a great way to educate the American people on the risks of AI and potential solutions. I am also dismayed to hear that many of the people informing Congress of how to regulate AI were biased towards relaxed regulations as they would personally benefit from them. I think that transparency would have helped to better establish community trust in this situation.
