Summary: The following article brings to light that there are companies out there that know they are unethically collecting data on consumers; however, there are some companies that are unaware of their unethical data collection methods. The term “Data Laundering” was mentioned and this essentially refers to the unethical practices of collecting data and then acting as if the data was truly collected in a correct manner. There is currently no federal law against unethically collecting data from consumers, and this causes most consumers to not trust companies. Even though some companies might be collecting large amounts of personal data in order to improve some of the artificial intelligence techniques or machine learning algorithms, they should still take into consideration unethical practices. Sometimes it is easy to forget about the ethics behind data collection when a data analyst or data scientist is not part of the collection process. However, PK Protect was created to help businesses work with personal data that perhaps may need to be deleted.
