Summary: The following article describes how facial recognition technology undoubtedly has remarkable benefits in our society. In many ways it increases security and accelerates identification for access purposes. However, there are a multitude of ethical concerns that come into play with its usage. The first is transparency. People are uninformed with how their facial images are used when they are captured on security cameras and other mediums. Second is mass surveillance. Especially when legal issues arise, facial recognition can be much overused to the point where it can invade the privacy of individuals. A third concern is bias and accuracy concerns. Sometimes errors are made in facial recognition that can bear extensive consequences in serious situations. For example, it has been shown that darker skin women are misidentified the most in facial recognition.
