The Importance of Ethics in Biostatistics

Author: Melody Goodman

Publisher: NYU School of Public Health

Publication Year: 2021

Summary: The following article discusses how biostatisticians are narrators who must be ethical in the way we tell stories. We must be aware of the real implications of bias and seek to reduce bias every time we are working with data. Computer code should be open-source in order to ensure verification and reproducibility. Goodman has written an oath for biostatiscians. A part of the oath that is particularly interesting was “consistency, candor, and compassion should outweigh the model’s precision or the interventionist’s influence.”
