Summary: The following article discusses what statisticians can do to promote ethical practices and what educators can do to instill ethical conduct in data science. The author begins by sharing a personal story about a class of engineers who were tasked with developing a pipeline to send blood from one nation to another. The classmates came back with many designs and ideas for the pipeline, however the professor failed them all because they did not question the ethics of the assignment. The point of the story was to reiterate the importance of asking ‘why’ before asking ‘how’.
