Summary: The following talk focuses on how driverless cars use algorithms to reduce car accidents which are occurred by human errors. However, it is difficult to determine what the car should do when it is posed with an ethically challenging situation. Iyad Rahwan stresses that it is difficult to come to a societal consensus when it comes to ethical dilemmas like this, and it’s important to recognize that it is not only a technological problem, but also a societal cooperation problem. Only then can the right questions about how to tackle this challenging ethical problem be asked, and develop algorithms that can benefit humanity as a whole.
