Summary: The following book shows us how bias exists in even the most innocuous of circumstances. In systems that are primarily designed for and by men, many systematically ignore the female half of the population. Criado Perez provides case studies from nearly every sect to showcase this data disparity and its detrimental impacts on the overlooked demographic. The primary solution for this far-reaching problem is disaggregating the data i.e. looking across gender and other identities in the EDA and beyond. Lumping different groups and identities together causes valuable information to be lost and typically biases result in favor of the dominant group. Although this is a slightly longer read, this book puts the impact of gender bias into several different perspectives and provides data scientists with a variety of tangible or easily understood examples of the consequences of unchecked gender bias.
